My Favorite Homemade Burger

Hey All!

Do you love making mouth-watering delicious burgers at home?

Me too, and I’ve been on a quest to do just that!

I am a (sort of) new meat eater, and after a 20 year hiatus, I have been trying different ways to make homemade burgers that are, well, awesome!

After quite a few different attempts and trying different types of ground beef, this is the “formula” my husband and I came up with that we both enjoy, so I thought I’d share the Yum with you.

First and foremost is the beef itself.  We are now purchasing ground beef at our local HEB grocery store.  They freshly ground their beef every day (the time is even stamped on the package).  This has made a great difference in the taste of our homemade burgers.  Freshness really does matter.  Thank you HEB – and they have a very clean meat market, which I greatly appreciate.  So HUGE thank you!

Our beef of choice is ground sirloin with a 90/10 fat ratio.  I know what you’re thinking…  They’ll be dry…  Well, hang on there pardner, we thought of that too.

Here is our remedy for that – EVOO!

We mix our ingredients together by hand – get those gloves out and get ready to massage that EVOO into that meat.  I believe this is what makes all the difference.  The texture of the meat after it’s cooked is so good, and so smooth, when prepped in advance this way.

Using 2.75 lb of freshly ground sirloin we added 2 1/2 Tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  Then we added in a few seasonings, such as salt, garlic powder, onion powder and freshly ground black pepper.  Just season to taste.  A good sprinkling over the whole bowl of each.

After mixing (actually mushing) everything together well by hand – not fork or spoon, form into nice sized patties.  We yielded 10 patties from this amount of beef.

Then cook or grill them to your heart’s delight!

Hubby grilled ours.  It adds even more extra Yum with the grill flavor.

Just have fun and add your favorite seasonings. I plan to try some different variations myself, but will definitely stick to the freshly ground sirloin with olive oil base.  I think that’s the magic right there.
